Farmington outshot the Storm by a convincing 28-18, including a lopsided 24-11 over the final two periods, but came up short on the scoreboard.
"We had many good looks and didn't convert," Tiger coach Keith Revels said. "We rang a couple pipes as well.
"We had a lackluster first period, and given our difficulties offensively, that was enough to do us in. Our margin for error is very small right now. We just can't afford to have an off period."
Chanhassen led 1-0 after the first period but a second period power play score by Dallas Tucker (from Erik Holmstrom and Justin Novak) tied the count heading into the final 17 minutes.
Chanhassen's Jake Bever netted his second power play goal of the night to put the Storm back up by one early in the third but Holmstrom's first career score from Novak and Kevin Olund with seven minutes to go set up an exciting finish.
The Storm's third power play score of the night with 3:45 to play gave Chanhassen back the lead and an empty-netter in the final minute sealed the deal.

"We shuffled lines a bit to try to spark some scoring and we may need to get a look ay some new combinations up front...We need to finish strong and play with an increased sense of urgency."
Farmington (10-11-1) won't get much time to dwell on the loss. The Tigers return to action Saturday with a non-conference game at Bloomington Kennedy in which they will try to build some steam heading into the rapidly-approaching post-season.
" Limping into sections would hurt us seeding-wise," Revels said, "and the post season is all about momentum."
