Farmington's stay in the Section 1AA tournament was short-lived as the seventh-seeded Tigers fell to No. 2 seed Lakeville South 7-0 in a quarterfinal game played Wednesday night at Hasse Arena in Lakeville.
"We really had an off night," Tiger coach Jon Holmes said. "We came ready to play and the girls weer fired up but for whatever reason we just didn't have the hop in our step. We mades some defensive zone mistakes that we hadn't made all year.
"Unfortunately games like that happen. It's just unfortunate it had to happen in the post-season."
The Cougars came out flying, scoring twice in an opening period that saw them outshoot their guests by an eye-catching 22-3.
The winners went on to score two more goals in the second period and three more in the third to boost their season record to 17-7-2.
South finished the night with a huge 47-9 advantage in
shots on goal in handing the Tigers their seventh shutout loss of the
season.
Molly Singewald and Madison Bowe shared the Farmington goaltender position but neither had much luck against the hard-charging South attack. Singewald (31 saves) allowed three goals and Bowe (nine saves) gave up four.
The Cougars will host No. 3 seed Kasson-Mantorville in the semifinals on Saturday. The loss closed the books on a Farmington season that saw the Tigers compile a 4-19-3 mark.
