Christopher Kirchmann school record in 100 free |
The speedy senior won the 100 freestyle in a school record 47.29 seconds, placed fourth in the 50 freestyle and swam a leg on two qualifying relay teams, the first place 200 freestyle and the fourth place 400 freestyle.
Joining Kirchmann on the school record-breaking state-qualifying relay teams were seniors Dahlton Bell, Christian Bell and Cameron Molnar.
Senior diver Evan Carufel, a state meet qualifier a year ago, won the one-meter board competition and earned the section "Diver of the Year" award. Sophomore teammate Jonathan Bovee ranked fourth to punch his ticket to state.

"We had some great swims and a few disappointments," Tiger coach Ryan Hamen said. "I do not think the final outcome would have changed but we hoped a few more guys would have placed higher in the final round... Finishing third is nothing to hang our head about but our hopes were much higher."
As for the his athletes' chances at state, Hamen thinks Kirchmann has a shot at the top eight in the 100 freestyle and he is hopeful his two relay teams also advance to the finals.
"I am very proud of the boys for all the hard work they put into a great season," he said. "We are looking forward to going to state bringing those who have truly made it a goal for a long time to do well at that level."

State diving competition begins Thursday with the swimming preliminaries scheduled for Friday and the finals on Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
