Alumni Alley: Ex-Tigers still on course

Three former Tigers are playing golf for collegiate teams this fall. Greg Werner (2009) and Patti Serdar (2008) are members of the men's and women's teams, respectively, at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Two weeks ago Werner fired rounds of 73 and 74 to finish in a fifth place tie in a field of 74 golfers as the Mavericks won the Husky Invitational, played at the St. Cloud Country Club.

Rachel Lamberty, a 2008 Tiger grad and a junior transfer at St. Mary's University in Winona, is the third ex-Tiger playing collegiately this fall. Two weeks ago, Lamberty shot 90-91 to place ninth in a field of 37 at the Ripon (Wisconsin) Invitational.

Many current and past FHS coaches took part in the Kyle Malin Scramble Tournament played Saturday, Sept. 18, at Heritage Links Golf Club in Lakeville. Among the Tiger coaching alumni were Dick Arnold, who guided the Tigers to their only state baseball tournament appearance in 1977; Gerry Greupner, Byron Olson, Terry Holmes and Pete Boelter.

Members of the current coaching staff who played in the event to raise funds for Malin who lost parts of both legs while on combat duty for the US Army in Afghanistan were Jason Berg, Mike Winters, Jon Graff, Jon Holmes, Shawn Anderson, Jon Lund, Glenn Mogensen, Gary Burr, Loren Cartwright, Dan Pickens and Chad Olson.

Terry Holmes, Jon Holmes, 1996 FHS male co-Athlete of the Year Scott Holmes and Steve Sabetti, a coach at Lakeville North shot a 13-under par 59 to win the tournament.
