Girls Cross Country: Tigers runner-up at New Prague


The Tiger girls placed four runners among the top 20 to earn a second place finish at the the New Prague Invitational held Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the New Prague Golf Course.
New Prague won the 11-team competition with 34 points. Farmington tallied 74, Belle Plaine 127, Mankato Loyola 135, Faribault 137, Jordan 186, Norwood-Young America 188, Montgomery 211, LeSueur 275, Cannon Falls incomplete and St. Peter incomplete.
"We were excited to place second in both the varsity and junior varsity race," Farmington coach Heidi Revels said. "Our hard work is paying off. We are stronger and more confident than we were at the start of the season."
Bailey Opsal and Maria Pacheco turned in the top Farmignton finishes with Opsal placing seventh in 16:33 and Pacheco eighth in 16:39 over the 4000-meter course.
Sofia Chadwick (14th; 16:49.1) and Maria Kiminski (15th; 16:49.6) also cracked the top 20.
Victoria Jacoby (30th; 17:40); Marissa Stewart (32nd; 17:52) and Natalie Sitzman (34th; 18:00) rounded out the Tiger scorecard.
"All seven finished at 18:00 or under," Revels said. "We had a strong race. I think having a smaller meet was a nice break for us."
In the junior varsity race, three Farmington entrants finished in the top 10: Maricella Pacheco, 4th (18:09); Morgan Medved, 5th (18:09.5) and Kayla Long, 7th (18:47).
