Boys Soccer: Tigers open Missota campaign with a win

Farmington opened its 2010 Missota Conference schedule on a positive note Thursday, Sept. 16, with a 2-1 win over Red Wing at Tiger Stadium. The victory raised the Tigers record to 4-3 with the four wins matching last season's total.
"It feels good to start the conference season with a win," coach Julian Buss said. "That puts us in position to reach our goal of finishing in the top three."
The triumph over the Wingers didn't come easily. The visitors struck first with a goal just before halftime and held the lead until senior captain Justen Thelen tied the count midway through the second period on a direct kick after Cole Landwehr was fouled.
Sam Leske, who moved to midfield from his sweeper position after intermission, scored the unassisted game-winner with just 3:14 remaining in regulation.
Leske opened some space with his speed and buried a shot from close range to avenge a tough 4-3 loss to the Wingers late in the 2009 season.
"Sam has a knack for creating scoring opportunities," Buss said.
