Baseball: League-leading Shakopee squeaks by Tigers 7-6

Sebren Baer (bottom) and Ty Vincent
seventh-inning doubles tied the game at 6-6

The Tigers battled back from an early 6-0 deficit but in the end fell a run short in a 7-6, extra-inning loss to Missota Conference leader Shakopee Friday night, May 6, in Shakopee.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
"We did a great job of fighting back," Tiger coach Mike Winters said. "That was one thing we needed to improve on, playing better from behind...but we kicked to ball around too much. Six errors is too many."
"With that in mind, we were happy to have a chance at the end against the team leading the conference."
The Sabers broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth to forge their early six-run lead.
In the Farmington fifth, two walks and an error set up John Stibal's two-out, bases-clearing double to cut the deficit in half.
The Tigers knotted the score with three more scores in the seventh when Spencer Merle and Nathan Graham singled and Sebren Baer and Ty Vincent followed with doubles.
Shakopee scored the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth against Cole Luskey who threw four-plus innings in relief of starter Dayne Eich.
"Our pitchers did a good job of getting ahead of the hitters," Winters said, "but we can't continue to pile up walks and errors in the same inning. That's a killer."
