Boys Track: Tigers 5th in Missota Relays

Zach Wyatt
2nd in high jump and triple jump

Tiger coach Brian Helmstetter said he was aiming for a fourth place finish at Tuesday's Missota Conference Relays but injuries to a couple of key point-getters resulted in a fifth place showing.
"We had a 'no height' in the pole vault and seniors Sam Hanson and Tyler Grubb were injured or we would have had a shot at third place. I'm very pleased with how we performed.
"Most of our relays had two or more ninth graders so they are getting great experience while also tasting success at a young age. I am excited how the guys came together and competed."
Favored Shakopee won the team title, defeating surprising Chanhassen 189-162 for the crown. New Prague and Red Wing tied for third at 135, followed by Farmington 128, Northfield 124, Holy Angels 83 and Chaska 59.
The meet was run entirely as a "relay" with even the field events scored on the basis of combined heights/distances of teams of three athletes.
Farmington's highest overall finish came in the jumps where the trio of Zach Wyatt, Dan Berg and Cullen Smith finished runner-up in the high jump and the team of Wyatt, Smith and Justin Hett ranked second in the triple jump.
The short medley relay team of of CJ Record, Charlie Wicks, Jack Erickson and Tanner Grubb turned in the top Farmington performance on the track with a third place finish.
No less that six Tiger entrants scored fourth place points, four in running events and two more in field events.
The 4x100 foursome of Record, Wicks, Alex Chadwick and Mason Auge placed fourth as did the 4x800 team of Eric Stoeckman, Trevor Breezley, Hunter Meyer and Jared Holt.
Also placing fourth were the sprint medley team of Record, Auge, Tyler Grubb and Tyler Lerbakken and the 4x400 foursome of Jeff Hanson, Lerbakken, Wicks and Tanner Grubb.
In the field events, John Schimmel, Joe Ouyang and Eric Schimmel took fourth in the shot put and John Schimmel, Dillon Pariseau and Ouyang placed fourth in the discus.
Next Tuesday (May 10) the Tigers get on the bus and head for Rochester Mayo for the Section 1AA True Team meet.
