Boys Lacrosse: Injury overshadows defeat at Holy Angels

Matt Ackerman 3 goals vs. Holy Angels

The Tigers stayed with Holy Angels for the better part of the first half in a 17-6 loss Saturday, May 8, at the Stardome in Richfield.
"The final score doesn't indicate how the game went," Farmington coach Paul Sorenson said. "At one point were were down 6-4 and it was still 10-6 at halftime."
Shortly after the start of the third period, however, the game took an unfortunate turn. Tiger midfielder Matt Heinzerling-Wiese had to be removed from the field after suffering a neck/head injury.
"It was a very scary scene," Sorenson said, "and needless to say, it shook our guys up pretty good, They never really mentally recovered.
"Matt is in a neck brace and is still in the hospital. We're hopeful the injury is a concussion at this point. Our prayers go out to him and his family."
On the field, Matt Ackerman scored three goals, Marques Words two and Mitch Collier for the Tigers.
"I was proud of the way our team scratched and clawed the entire game," Sorenson said.
"We are improving in so many areas that are not showing up on the scoreboard," Sorenson said, "but with Matt that puts five of our top players out with injuries for an extended time period. It's hard to compete when you are the walking wounded."
The shorthanded Tigers don't have much time to prepare for their next game, a Monday (May 9) home contest against Holy Family. Thursday they entertain Chaska/Chanhassen at Tiger Stadium.
