Ryan Jara come-from-behind win at No. 2 singles |
The meet was the conference opener for both teams. The Raiders own a 3-1 season record; the Tigers stand at 6-2.
The Fairchild twins ran their record to 10-0 for the season with a hard-fought 6-2, 6-4 victory over the Raider tandem of Elizabeth Pritchard and Annika Johnson while Jara moved to 7-3 with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Rachel Will.
"We were in it," coach Jack Olwell said. " A couple matches started well for us but then turned. Of course, Northfield is always deep and is off to a good start this year.
"This was not a bad loss in that we have closed the gap and are getting stronger. Losses tend to reveal areas of need so we are heading back to practice to shore those up."
The Tigers return to action Monday with a non-conference road match at Lakeville South.
