Boys Cross Country: Fenske 5th, Tigers 6th at Shakopee

Elliot Fenske finished fifth in a field of 70 runners to help the Tigers to a sixth place finish in the 11-team Shakopee Invitational held Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Memorial Park in Shakopee.
Forest Lake dominated the race, winning the team title with 34 points. Host Shakopee ran a distant second with 90, followed by New Prague 115, St. Paul Central 120, Robbinsdale Cooper 136, Farmington 137, Chanhassen 143, Northfield 171, Richfield 212, St. Francis 275 and Breck 329.
Fenske ran the 5000-meter course in 17:12.3 while finishing behind a pair of Missota Conference rivals. Shakopee's Trent Lusigan won the race in 16:16.6 and teammate Nick Lindstron placed second in 16:35.
"Elliot ran well with some top notch runners." coach Keith Revels said. "He will see them again next week at the conference meet."
The Missota Conference Championships are slated for Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the the New Prague Golf Club.
Carl Elmer led a pack of four Tigers who finished within a span of 15 seconds. Elmer ranked 26th in 18:15.5; Lincoln Kirchoff 33rd in 18:21.7; Dan Block 34th in 18:22.7 and Ben Olson 39th in in 18:30.5. Adam Wallenta placed 43rd (18:41.5) and Alec Wilson 61st (19:19.2).
"We're starting to see our No. 2-No. 5 guys respond a bit," Revels said. "Hopefully, we'll take another step in the right direction next week."
Revels said Red Wing is the odds-on choice for Missota honors with Shakopee not too far behind.
"We beat Northfield and Chanhassen at this meet and I think our pack matches up well with New Prague," he said. "We'll need to be on next week."
