Boys Soccer: Tigers snap losing skid, beat Chaska 4-3

Justen Thelen

Senior captain Justen Thelen scored a pair of goals and assisted on another and Chad Stivers had another big night in goal as the Tigers beat Chaska 4-3 Tuesday, Oc. 5, at Tiger Stadium.
The victory snapped a six-game losing skid for Farmington and raised its season record to 5-9; 2-4 in the Missota Conference.
Mike Ricker ignited a three-goal Tiger outburst in the first half with a long, high shot that nicked the goal post and dropped into the net. Thelen added the second two, one on a penalty kick and the other on crisp passes from Reid Wolf and Jared Wolt.
Chaska came out more aggressively in the second half, scoring twice in the first 21 minutes. That's when Stivers amped up his game.
The junior netminder turned away several Hawk scoring chances over the next five minutes and Cole Landwehr (from Thelen) gave his team a little breathing room with the final Tiger goal with 14:14 to play.
Chaska netted its third goal with just over nine minutes left but couldn't get the tying goal past Stivers.
"I don't know what we would have done without him back there," coach Julian Buss said. "For awhile there it looked like he was making an outstanding save every minute.
"I couldn't help but thinking how frustrating it must have been for Chaska. They were doing everything they needed to score but Chad had other plans."
