Girls Cross Country: We're No. 2

Maria Kiminski

Like Avis rental car company, the Tiger girls have grown accustomed to finishing No. 2.
Tuesday, Oct. 5, the Tigers trailed only Visitation at the seven-team Rogers Invitational held at Fox Hollow Golf Club in St. Michael. Farmington also finished ruuner-up at last week's New Prague Invitational.
Visitation dominated the race, taking the first four individual spots and placing six runners in the top 10. Farmington was a solid second with 53, followed by Benilde-St. Margaret's 102, St. Paul Central 125, Blaine 144, Delano 150 and Rogers 157.
Tiger freshman Maricia Pacheco and sophomore Maria Kiminski each made the top 10. Pacheco covered the 4000-meter course in 16:41.9 to take fifth. Kiminski ranked 10th in 16:52.
The next three Farmington finishers cracked the top 15: junior Bailey Opsal, 12th;(17:11.6); eighth-grader Sofia Chadwick, 13th (17:14.4) and eighth-grader Victoria Jacoby, 15th (17:27.9).
Eighth-grader Morgan Medved earned a spot in the varsity lineup for next week with an 18th place finish in 17:57.7 and junior Natalie Sitzman ranked 27th in 18:17.4.
"In comparing all of the times over the course of season, there has definitely been an improvement each week," coach Heidi Revels said. "The times from this year are also better than last year's....Having such a young team that continues to improve like that is exciting for our program."
Tuesday, October 12, the Tigers travel west for the Shakopee Invitaional, a tune-up for the following week's Missota Conference Championships in New Prague.
