Farmington finished 10th among 14 teams at the Section 1AA Championships held Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Brooktree Golf Club in Owatonna.
Lakeville South defeated crosstown rival Lakeville North 40-84 to win section team honors. Both schools advanced to the Class AA state meet slated for this Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
The Tigers finished with 249 points, three better than 11th place and Missota Conference rival Northfield.
"That was one of our goals since they beat us by 10 points at the conference meet," Farmington coach Heidi Revels said.
"The girls ran a great meet. They have worked hard this season. Everyone has improved their personal times. Considering the competition, they should be really proud of themselves."
Freshman Maricia Pacheco continued to run at the front of the Tiger pack, placing 20th overall in 15:46, her best time of the 2010 season.
Sophomore Maria Kiminski and junior Bailey Opsal hit the finishing chute within a second of each other, Kiminski taking 49th in 16:33.8 and Opsal 50th in 16:34.6. Eighth-graders Sofia Chadwick and Victoria Jacoby each cracked the 17:00 minute barrier. Chadwick was 61st in 16:50.6 and Jacoby 69th in 16:59.7.
Junior Marissa Stewart (74th, 17:19.1) and eighth-grader Morgan Nedved (76th, 17:25.1) completed the Tiger varsity lineup.
