Girls Tennis: Tigers out in Section 1AA

Maggie Rudorfer

Rochester Century lived up to its No. 5 state ranking with a dominant 7-0 win over the Tigers in Section 1AA opening round play Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Rochester.

The Panthers lost just six games all day and won in straight sets at each position.

"They are deserving of their lofty ranking," Farmington coach Jack Olwell said. "They made short work of us and they are a very young team."

Olwell said Maggie Rudorfer at No. 1 singles may have drawn the the toughest assignment of the day, matching up with the No. 1 ranked Class AA player in Minnesota.

"Maggie lost 0-6, 0-6," Olwell said, "but she engaged her opponent in some long rallies and kept her on the court a long time."

Despite the lopsided loss, Olwell said that he was not disappointed with his team's effort against some pretty long odds.

"In this sport lower seeds almost never get by higher seeded opponents," he said. "I am proud of how our girls did not hang their heads before, during or after the match."

The loss eliminated the Tigers from the section team tournament. Section 1AA individual play begins nest week.

Rudorfer and Meghan Lindstrom will represent Farmington in singles play. Competing in the doubles bracket will be the Tiger tandems of Danielle Froehling/Katie Burgess and Brianne Hashak/Emilee Shearer.
