Boys Soccer: Tigers settle for a tie

Jake Agnew 14 saves vs. Rochester Mayo
An hour and a half of soccer couldn't produce a winner Saturday afternoon as the Tigers fought to a scoreless overtime tie with Rochester Mayo at Tiger Stadium.

The draw was the second of the season for Farmington which saw its season record settle in at 5-2-2. Both of the ties have come on their home turf. Four of the nine games this season have gone to overtime.

The Tigers played without leading scorer Jared Wolt and his absence had an impact on offensive efficiency.

"We had difficult creating shot opportunities," coach Julian Buss said. "We only had 11 shots. A couple of them went wide or hit the goal post but the same could be said for Mayo...In our last two games I feel we have outplayed our opponents in overtime."

The Tiger defense came up with another quality game in posting its fifth shutout of the season and sophomore Jake Agnew continued to shine in net with 14 saves.

"Jake made some ridiculous saves," Buss said. "Quite a few of them were game savers that required thoughtful positioning and incredible dives."

The tie leaves Farmington with a 4-2-1 record against Section 1AA opposition, something that should bode well for the post-season..

"Our strong section play should warrant a high seed for the tournament," Buss said.

The Tigers, 1-0 in the Missota Conference, return to league play this week with a road game at Red Wing on Tuesday followed by a home contest with New Prague Thursday night.
