Illness forced mass movement in the singles lineup and the result was a regular season-ending 6-1 Missota Conference loss to Shakopee Thursday afternoon at the Boeckman Middle School courts.

Megan Stivers, a fixture at first singles the past two seasons, came down with mononucleosis forcing Ryan Jara, Jessie Novotny and Callie Olmscheid to all move up a rung on the singles ladder.

The visiting Sabers took advantage of the situation, sweeping the four singles matches and leaving the Tigers with an 11-5 season record (3-4 in the Missota Conference).

The lone Tiger win came at first doubles where Lindsey and Beth Fairchild continued their dominating season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory

Win No. 11 for the Tigers came in unorthodox fashion. It was so close it took eight days to decide the outcome.

Officially, Farmignton edged Chaska 4-3 Tuesday afternoon in Chaska but in reality only the third set of one match was played. That's because rain suspended play last week with the teams tied at 3-3 and Tiger junior Jessie Novotny leading 2-0 in the third set of the pivotal match.

Novotny went on to win the deciding set 6-3 and put the match in the Tiger win column. Her win completed a clean sweep by Farmington in singles play. Stivers, Jara and Olmscheid each won in straight sets.

Farmignton will open Section 1AA post-season play next Tuesday against an opponent and at a site to be determined by seeding.
