their way around the hilly Swain Invitational course
The Tigers tried something a little different Saturday, October 1, with their first-ever appearance at the super-sized Swain Invitational held at Enger Park in Duluth. More than 2600 runners from 81 schools competed in the 12 races.
The two-day event included Friday festivities at Duluth's popular Canal Park and a pasta dinner at Grandma's Restaurant.
"It was a great trip for us," coach Heidi Revels said. "It really encourages team bonding."
On the challenging and hilly course, the Tigers finished 15th in a field of 28 teams in the Class AA division.
Sophomore Maricia Pachecho led the Tiger pack with a 16:45 clocking over the tough 4000-meter course.
"This was the first time this season Maricia has been our top runner," Revels said. "It was a great confidence booster for her after starting the season injured. She said she loves running the hills."
Maria Kiminski and Sofia Chadwick finished 53rd and 56th overall in times of 17:17 and 17:21. Alexis Johnson (110th; 18:16) and Tia Jacoby (112th; 18:18) rounded out the point-scorers for the Tigers.
Marciella Pacheho finished 122nd in 18:43 and Sarah Cummings ranked 142nd in 19:03.
Thursday the Tigers head to Waseca on their first trip to the Waseca Invitational to be run at the Waseca Lakeside Golf Course.
