For the second time this season the Tigers played Missota Conference champion Northfield tough only to come up short on the scoreboard, this time a 1-0 loss in the Section 1AA quarterfinals played Thursday, October 13, in Northfield.
"It was a fantastic game," Tiger coach Rob Carpentier said. "They scored three minutes into the game and owned the first 15 minutes.
"But then things evened out and for the last 10 minutes of the first half and all of the second we were all over them."
Farmington finished with an 11-8 advantage in shots with Hannah Miller just missing wide on a couple of good opportunities and Rachel Beck failing to convert on a breakaway.
Carpentier said that the hardest aspect to take from the season-ending loss was an official's call with eight minutes left in regulation that disallowed a potential tying goal.
Izzie Ferm's header found the net but instead of a goal Ferm was tagged with a penalty for impeding the goalkeeper.
"For the game we had 13 fouls and they (Northfield) had four," Carpentier said. "We've had the one official twice now and it's been the same story...It's the first time in my coaching career where I could say that an official had a huge say in the outcome of a game.
"The kids played so well and at least should have been able to see what happened in overtime."
The loss closed the books on the Tigers' 2011 season that saw them finish with an 8-8-1 record.
