It's fortunate the Tigers aren't in the woodworking business. They're having a difficult time finishing.
Farmington played one of its better matches of the season against a quality opponent at Irondale on Tuesday but failure to finish strong resulted in a tough 3-1 loss. Every game was close with the Knights winning 25-20, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-20.
"It seems it's either a slow start or failure to finish strong," coach Mike Woody said. "They had one very good player and we managed to slow her down but her teammates stepped up and carried them through.
"I sound like a broken record. It's the same things these girls have been struggling with all season. Last night we played better against a good team, just not good enough."
The Tigers featured a balanced offensive attack with Emily Nelson and Bekah Lippert finishing with nine kills each and Laura Steege eight. Mia Johnston led in serve assists with 15 and RuthAnne Schmitt added nine. Nelson also had a trio of service aces.
Emma Pahning led a four-player Tiger contingent in double figures in digs with 20. Rachel Eckert added 11 and Johnston and Alexis Wenskaug had 10 apiece. Lippert had a big night at the net with 11 blocks. Steege and Allie Pierskalla finished with five apiece.
The Tigers (6-17) return to Missota Conference play Thursday with a home match against Northfield at Tiger Gym.
