Boys Swimming: Lakers sink Tigers 94-83

Evan Carufel
1st place one-meter diving

Powerful Prior Lake won seven of the first nine events and cruised to a 94-83 dual meet win over the Tigers Tuesday night at Hidden Oaks Middle School. The Lakers, who built a 94-45 cushion, swam the meet's final three events in exhibition status.

"The boys had a pretty tough meet," coach Ryan Hamen said. "Prior Lake has a lot of good swimmers so I told the boys to use the clock as their reward, perform the way they have been practicing and earn good times...They have been pushing themselves in practice and it showed in last night’s meet."

Evan Carufel and Christopher Kirchmann provided the only Farmington firsts with Carufel winning the one-meter diving competition and Kirchmann leading the pack in the 100 freestyle.

Nick Stephan had the second-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke and Kirchmann was runner-up in the 200 individual medley race.

Zach Holton scored third place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle while Jonathan Bovee ranked third on the one-meter board.

Hamen said he placed several of his swimmers in events other than their strengths, producing mixed results.

"Some athletes did very well for themselves," Hamen said, "while others were quite disappointed and want to get back to practice and continue to work on what they need to in order to achieve the successes they have set out to do."

Next up for the Tigers is a dual meet Thursday night, Dec. 22, at Hopkins.
