Girls Basketball: Another slow start

Jeanna Gaalswyk
8 points, 5 rebounds off the bench

Farmington got off to another sluggish start and could never quite recover in a 50-35 non-conference road loss Tuesday night to Hudson, Wisconsin. With the loss the Tigers season record dropped to 0-7.

"We came out flat and once again found ourselves in a hole," coach Sondra Chadwick said. "The second half we came out with more intensity, but we need to be able to play a full game.

"We are making things entirely too hard for ourselves by letting teams jump out on us. I think this was a good learning experience to show the girls they need to show up at the tip-off."

Hudson scored the game's first nine points and took a 24-17 advantage to the halftime break.

Chadwick said despite the loss the trip to Wisconsin wasn't without its moments.

"We cut our turnovers in half (27 to 14) from the Lakeville South game last week," she said, "and Jeanna Gaalswyk, Gabby White and Allie Rice come off the bench and gave us some good minutes."

Sofia Chadwick paced the offense with 10 points and also chipped in with three assists and three steals. Gaalswyk added eight points and a team-high five rebounds. Isis Alexander netted seven and she and White each dished out four assists.

The Tigers return home Thursday night to close out the pre-holiday portion of their schedule with a non-conference game against Section 1 rival Rochester Mayo.
