Boys Swimming: Tigers seventh at Apple Valley Invite

Nick Stephan
9th 100 butterfly; 10th 200 freestyle relay

The Tigers returned to the pool with a seventh place finish in the nine-team Apple Valley Invitational held Friday, Dec. 30.

State power Stillwater won the team title with 2342 points. Lakeville South placed second at 1971, followed by Anoka 1820, Lakeville North 1815, Cretin-Derham-Hall 1721, Eau Claire North 1694, Farmington 1525, Rochester Mayo 1340 and Apple Valley 1018.

"We swam what we expected," Tiger coach Ryan Hamen said. "The boys are still working hard in preparation for the end of the season.

"Those who dropped times did so primarily because they are focusing on how to swim their races better. We still have preparation to do as all the swimmers are working on fine tuning their swims.."

Evan Carufel had the highest individual finish for the Tigers, ranking fourth in the one-meter diving competition.

Nick Stephan took ninth in the 100 breaststroke and Zach Holton placed 11th and 12th respectively in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Aaron Lane, Holton, Cameron Molnar and Conner Kealy checked in ninth and the 200 medley relay foursome of Lane, Stephan, Holton and Tyler Lerbakken ranked tenth.

The Tigers start the new year with a Missota Conference dual meet with Red Wing Thursday, Jan. 6, at the Dodge Middle School pool.
