Boys Tennis: Season winding down

Ben Cline (bottom) and Blake Olmscheid
Straight-set winners at 1st and 2nd singles vs. Chaska

Farmington began its final week of the regular season with a pair of Missota Conference dual meet losses, 7-0 Monday at Chanhassen and 5-2 Tuesday to Chaska on the Boeckman Middle School courts.
Against Shakopee the Tigers were simply out-manned by the talented Sabers who own a 13-2 season record.
"They are very solid at all flights," Tiger coach Jack Olwell said, "but I thought we gave them a good match almost everywhere."
The best Farmington showings came at second and third doubles where the No. 2 pairing of Ivan Rodriguez and Tyler Olsen and the No. 3 team of Jeff Zakoski and Brian Waldbillig each lost by a point in the second set.
Against Chaska, Ben Cline and Blake Olmscheid scored victories at the first and singles positions and newcomer Austin Tremmel, making just his second varsity start in singles, came within a couple of points of scoring a victory.
"We gave ourselves a chance," Olwell said. "The progress we have made over the last 12 months has been tremendous. If you judge it using only victories as a yardstick, then our improvement has been slight. But if you look at our scores and where we have gained ground on our opponents, it is clear we are coming on."
