Erin Hickey
1st place in 4x400 relay and long jump
Farmington won two events and finished second in three more to finish fifth in the Missota Conference Relays held Tuesday, May 3, at Shakopee.
New Prague won the eight-team competition, defeating runner-up Chanhassen 185-152. Shakopee was third at 147, followed by Northfield 140, Farmington 127, Red Wing 105, Chaska 88 and Holy Angels 73.
The meet was run entirely as a "relay" with even the field events scored on the basis of combined heights/distances of teams of three athletes.
"We had a good day but we will need a great day on May 26 when the conference meet will be at our place," coach Tom Hart said. "There were many good races and we had some personal bests...I just need a few more of our athletes on the injured reserve list to get healthy so we can score more points."
Farmington won events in two of its strongest areas: the 4x400 meter relay and the long jump.
The 4x400 foursome of Alyssa Parco, Erin Hickey, Izzie Ferm and Maria Kiminski hit the finish line in 4:04.3 with Ferm running a blistering 59.4 split. In the long jump, school record-holder Nadia Lorencz teamed with Hickey and Parco to win the event by almost four feet with a total distance of 47-4 3/4.
The triple jump trio of Lorencz, Hickey and Jordan Bridges led Farmington's second place finishers. Also finishing runner-up were the sprint medley quartet of Mary Cline, Ferm, Hickey and Kiminski and the 300-meter shuttle hurdle team of Parco, Jessica Arey, Kassy Seegert and Kathryn Beckett.
Two other Tiger entrants scored third place points: the 100-meter shuttle hurdle team of Arey, Beckett, Parco and Lorencz and the pole vaulting threesome of Lorencz, Kelsey Lindell and Kiminski.
Next Tuesday, May 10, the Tigers travel to Rochester Mayo for the Section 1AA True Team Championships.
