The Tigers saw their season record dip under .500 (3-4) with two losses in three outings over the past five days.
Last Friday they lost for the second time this season to Shakopee's hard-throwing Ashley Walker, this time 6-0. Walker blanked Farmington 4-0 on only hit in the season opener.
The Sabers led 3-0 after six innings in the rematch and then blew the game wide open with a three-run seventh. Alyssa Hagen led Farmington at the plate with a pair of hits.
"Shakopee is a top five team in the state," coach Rob Laden said, "so even though we lost, I didn't feel bad about that game."
Monday's 3-2 loss to Chaska was a little tougher for Laden to swallow. Farmington used its only two hits, one by Hagen and another by Taylor Yousse, and a Hawk error to score a pair of runs in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks, however, countered with four hits in the sixth to score all three of their runs and pull out the victory.
"Our bats were as cold as the weather," Laden said of the game conditions which featured temperatures hovering around the 40 degree mark.
The weather heated up a little and so did the offense in a 4-0 road win over Holy Angels Tuesday at Taft Field in Richfield. Ashley Betzold hurled her second shutout of the season in earning her third win.
Hagen had two hits and Betzold, Yousse, Aleah Williamson and Toni Hunsinger each had one in the winning effort.
"Ashley (Betzold) is doing a great job of pitching for us," Laden said. "When her change-up is working she is really making it tough on opposing teams.
"Our defense is making more errors that I would like but we seem to come up with big plays to make up for them...I am hoping as the weather warms up so will our bats."
