Jordan Beschorner 6 strong innings |
Hinks scattered 10 hits and gave up just two earned runs in seven innings in a 6-3 win in the opener and Beschorner threw six strong innings, surrendering three earned runs on nine hits, in a 4-1 loss in the nightcap.
"Having to use just two pitchers and gaining a split are the positives to take away from today," Tiger coach Mike Winters said. "It also puts us in good shape going into Thursday's double header against Chanhassen.
"We still need to fix some mental things, but overall I was very pleased with the way we played. Both teams made some great plays, and hit the ball well."
In the first game Northfield took a 3-1 edge into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Tiger bats came alive to score four runs on four hits and an error to take the lead for good.
Johnny Dittman, Kevin Olund, Spencer Merle and Zach Speikers each collected a pair of hits in an 11-hit Farmington offense. Speikers drove in a pair of runs and Dittman scored twice. Speikers and Dittman were also active on the base paths with two steals apiece.
Beschorner had four strikeouts and three walks in the nightcap but the Farmington bats went quiet against Raider pitcher Jake Mathison who gave up just four hits over seven innings.
Northfield scored three runs in the first inning and then added an insurance score in the fourth. Farmington posted its run in the fifth on singles by Jordan Lugowski and Landon Nielson.
The doubleheader split leaves the Tigers with an overall 3-7 mark, 3-6 in the the Missota Conference, heading into Thursday's scheduled road doubleheader at Chanhassen.
