The teams were tied 5-5 at the halftime break before the visitors turned up the heat at both ends of the field.
"We made a conscious decision to turn up the defensive pressure, play smart, and play to win," coach Paul Sorensen said.
The win was the third in a row for Farmington who started the season with back-to-back one-goal losses.
The winners continued to follow Sorensen's balanced approach to scoring with six different players recording at least a point.
Corey Rudrud ran his season goal total to 14 with four scores. Rudrud has netted 10 goals during the current win streak.
Brendan Berg, who has tallied seven goals in the recent run, had two goals and an assist in the win over the Stormhawks.
Matt Heinzerling 13 saves |
"What I really like is the fact that these guys play for the team and as a team, no matter the score or situation," Sorensen said. "There is still a long way to go and we are taking this a game at a time but things are starting to fall into place."
Matt Heinzerling picked up his second straight win in net, stopping 13 of 19 shots on goal. In five games this season, Heinzerling and Kyle Kratz have combined to allow just 6.4 goals per contest.
"Matt continues to be one of the best goalies in the state regardless of record.," Sorensen said. "Our entire defense has all the confidence in the world in him."
Friday night's scheduled game with St. Cloud Tech tonight (Friday) has been postponed to yet more bad weather. The Tigers return to action Monday night at Simley and then return home the following night for a rematch with Holy Angels.
