Bennett Lagro's 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles sealed the victory |
The team's were tied 3-3 with only Bennett Lagro's match at No. 1 singles undecided. The Tiger freshman had won the first set handily (6-2), but his opponent had broken his serve at 5-3 in the second and the pressure was on.
"All of the other players gathered around to see the outcome," Tiger coach Jack Olwell said. "I was thinking how enjoyable it was to be nervous again."
Lagro made Olwell's day much more enjoyable by taking back control and closing out the match with a 7-5 victory.
Farmington won three of the four singles matches with Jake Bauer and Ivan Rodriguez each winning 6-2, 6-2 at the second and third positions.
The fourth Tiger point came at No. 1 doubles where Trent Kortenbusch and Austin Tremmel prevailed by a 6-1, 6-2 margin.
"They had maybe their best outing of the season, controlling both the baseline and the net," Olwell said.
The Tigers continue their match-a-day diet Thursday with a home contest against state-rated Shakopee. Friday New Prague comes to town for the regular season and Missota Conference finale.
