For the third consecutive game the outcome hinged on a strong finish and for the third straight time the Tigers came up short in an 8-7 loss to Holy Angels Tuesday night at Tiger Stadium.

The Stars came back from a 6-5 deficit and netted the game-winner with just 1:33 to play in regulation. A potential tying goal was disallowed with 28 seconds to go because of a whistle stopping play.

"It is our third game where we have tied it up late, just to give back a late goal and lose," Farmington coach Dan Pickens said. "We are a young team and we are hopefully learning about what kind of an attitude it takes to get a keep a lead.  We have to finish."

Farmington scored the game's first three goals, two by Rachael Welzin and one by Kylee Glen, but the Stars countered with four unanswered scores and led 4-3 at intermission.

The team's see-sawed back-and-forth in the second half with the Tigers holding their last advantage at 6-5 on Welzin's goal with 13:38 remaining.

Welzin finished with four goals to pace the Tiger offense. Glen added a pair of scores and Michaela Tonsager added a goal and an assist.

Co-captain Maddie Kohlbeck patrolled the Tiger nets and finished with 16 saves on 24 shots.

Despite the 0-4 start and the string of tough losses, Pickens is optimistic about his team's chances the rest of the way.

"We have a busy rest of the season with nine games and nine practices remaining," he said, "but I still feel confident that we can make a run.

"We have gotten better and better each game and I think we are a team that is just about to pop.
