Tyler Grubb continued to score points in bunches and Farmington (8-6) played well enough to post their third Missota Conference win in five tries with an 8-5 victory over Chaska Tuesday night, Jan. 11, at the Chaska Community Center.
Grubb, who entered the contest as the ninth leading scorer in the metro, ran his season total to 36 points with five goals and two assists. He scored shorthanded, on the power play and four times in the third period, It was one of those nights.
"Tyler stole the show," Farmington coach Keith Revels said, "especially late when we needed to stop a significant momentum shift due in part to some shorthanded situations we did not need to get into."
Blake Weinand netted the game's first goal and Grubb scored shorthanded to give the visitors a 2-1 lead after one period.
Dan Handberg and Andrew Peterson scored second period goals for the Tigers to push the lead to 4-2 at the second intermission and set up Grubb's third period heroics.
Grubb wasn't the only Tiger to have a big scoring night. Linemate Handberg had a goal and four assists for five points.
Goalie Victor Simones recorded just 10 saves in the game as the Tigers held a 21-10 edge in shots on goal.
Revels was happy to get out Chaska with his team's third league win (one more than all of last year) but wasn't entirely pleased with the performance.
"We were not at our best," he said. "Our energy level was a little low. We got away from our defensive mindset and did not play as physically as we needed to."
The Tiger coach added that in the days ahead he will be concentrating on getting more offensive production out of his second and third lines.
"The first line scored seven of the eight goals," he said. "We need to have the other lines find the twine to keep teams from keying too much on our top line.
"Having said all of that, we came home with a nice conference road win. If we can win when we're not hitting on all cylinders, we have the makings of continued success."
The Tigers get a stiff conference test Thursday night when New Prague comes to town. Face-off is 7:15 at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
