Tyler Magalis
Pool record on the one-meter board (262.80 points)
Tiger coach Ryan Hamen was pleased with the 94-81 Missota Conference dual meet win at Shakopee Thursday, Jan. 14, but not nearly as happy as we was with the individual peformances and time drops of his swimmers.
"Shakopee's team is only three years old," Hamen said, "so I was able to put my varsity swimmers in events they normally don't swim. We had some great surprises.
"The win wasn't nearly as important as the times and performance improvements we had."
The Tigers won the first eight events to run up a lead so large that they swam the last four in exhibition status, meaning no further points were counted.
The revamped 200 medley relay team of Aaron Lane. Matthew Stephan, Aaron Cochnauer and Tyler Magalis started the meet with a victory and Allen Berg followed it up with a win in the 200 freestyle.
Brian Huls and Magalis then scored firsts in the 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle to make it four straight for the visitors.
The win streak stretched to eight events after Magalis set a pool record on the one-meter board (262.80 points); Loren Hatten won the 100 butterfly; Christopher Kirchmann claimed the 100 freestyle and Zach Holton finished first in the 500 freestyle.
Had points been tallied for the final four events the Tigers would have racked up an even higher score as they led the pack in all four. Included in that group were the 200 freestyle relay team of Kirchmann, Hatten, Berg and Stephan; Huls in the 200 backstroke; Stephan in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay foursome of Hatten, Huls, Holton and Berg.
