1st 200 freestyle relay; 2nd 200 medley relay; 8th 100 breaststroke
Farmington finished third in a 12-team field in the Bronze Division of the Maroon and Gold Invitational held Saturday, Jan. 8, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Fergus Falls dominated the competition with 426.5 points. Mankato West placed a distant second with 338.5, followed by, Farmington 289, Hibbing 184, Andover 172.5, River Falls (WI) 169.5, Woodbury 168, Montevideo 152.5, Blaine 115.5, St. Louis Park 94, Minot (ND) 34, Osseo 25.
The Tigers scored top eight finishes in all 12 of the events. led by a first-place performance by the 200 freestyle relay team of Tyler Magalis, Brian Huls, Loren Hatten and Allen Berg.
"That was getting very close to our best time," coach Ryan Hamen said.
The 200 medley relay team of Huls, Hatten, Maglais and Zach Holton also had a good race, finishing second behind Fergus Falls.
For the second straight meet, Magalis set a new personal best score on the one-meter board with a point tonal of 258.55, good enough for second place.
Three other Tigers turned in third place performances: Berg in the 200 freestyle; Huls in the 100 freestyle and Holton in the 100 butterfly.
Magalis took fourth in the 50 freestyle; Huls fifth in the 100 backstroke and Holton sixth in the 200 individual medley.
Hatten ranked eighth in the 100 breaststroke and Chrsitopher Kirchmann placed eighth in the 500 freestyle. Evan Carufel finished 10th on the one-meter board.
The Tigers have two meets on tap this week, a Thursday dual at Northfield and an appearance at Saturday's South St. Paul Invitational.
