Girls Hockey: Tigers whitewash New Prague 2-0 for seventh straight

When New Prague visited Schmitz-Maki Arena back on Dec. 2, the Tigers outshot the Trojans 41-15 but had trouble getting the puck by goalie Shyler Sletta in a 2-0 victory.
Thursday's rematch at the New Prague Community Center proved to be second verse same as the first as Farmington won by an identical score for its seventh consecutive victory.
This time the shot count was 37-14 Tigers with junior goalie Jessica Erchul registering her fourth shutout of the season.
"It was very similar to the first time," Tiger caoch Jon Holmes said. "We hit some iron, missed some open nets, but all in all, we palyed well.
"Our goal is to continue playing better every game we step on the ice by focusing on specific objectives to accomplish for each game."
Farmington peppered Sletta with 11 shots in the opening period but couldn't dent the scoreboard until 6:43 into the second period when Krystal Baumann notched her 32nd of the season from Chloe Batta.
Batta netted the final score of the night four minutes later on assists from Hannah Alexander and Rachel Peroutky.
The visitors sent a dozen more shots at Sletta over the final 17 minutes but none found their mark.

Erchul didn't see a lot action in picking up her 13th win but a couple of them were pivotal.
"She came up big on a couple of breakaways that could have been a disaster if she hadn't been solid," Holmes said
Farmington (13-5) remains on top of the Missota Conference standings with a perfect 8-0 record. The loss dropped New Prague to 7-11-1 overall and 1-6-1 in league play.
The Tigers get a big test Tuesday, Jan. 18, when Blake, the second-ranked Class A team in the state, visits Schmitz-Maki for a non-conference game. Friday they resume conference play with a road game at Red Wing.
