The stat sheet showed that New Prague and Farmington finished with about the same number of shots on goal (34-32) but the scoreboard at Schmitz-Maki Arena told a completely different story Friday night, Jan. 14: New Prague 7 Farmington 1.
"Not a great showing for us," Farmington coach Keith Revels said. "Three of our top six forwards were either out or saw limited action.
"No excuses. We needed to be more physical and play with greater energy and discipline in the defensive zone."
New Prague led by a goal after the opening period before erupting for five scores (in 12 shots) in the second period to pull away.
The lone Tiger goal came in the third period from Matt Provost with assists from John Donnelly and Blake Weinand.
Victor Simones worked the nets for the first two periods, giving up six goals in 22 shots. Aaron Dahl came on in the third and surrendered the final goal while picking up 11 saves.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in Missota Conference play. New Prague is 10-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the league.
"We have to put this behind us," Revels said. "A bad loss still only counts as one loss."
The Tigers get back in action Tuesday Jan. 18, with a conference game with Chanhassen at the Victoria Ice Center.
