Tiger scoring machine Krystal Baumann got Northfield goalie Samantha Stark's attention early in the first period when she rattled a shot of the all-Missota Conference netminder's face mask. The rest of the night she spent stuffing the Northfield net.
Baumann scored five goals and assisted on a sixth as the Tigers ran their winning streak to five games with a 6-3 win over the Raiders Thursday night, Dec. 6, at Northfield Arena.
"She honestly played tonight like she plays every night," Farmington coach Jon Holmes said. "She won races to the puck. She beat defenders and she shot the puck hard.
"I think the difference the past few games lies in her shot selection. She's eyeing things up better and not letting go of the puck too early. She's been fun to watch."
Baumann now has 30 goals (and 10 assists) in 40 games. The Univesrity of Vermont recruit has scored an eye-catching 10 goals in her last three games.
Northfield got on the board first, scoring on the power play a little more thna a minute into the game but by the end of the period Baumann had scored twice for a one-goal lead.
Tiger defender Molly Friedlund netted her first goal of the season (from Baumann) for the only scoring of the second period and then Baumann outscored the Raiders 3-2 in the final frame to account for the final margin of victory. Two of the three Raider goals came on the power play.
Holmes praised the net work of Jessica Erchul who registered her 11th win of the season while picking up 20 saves.
"She is getting better and more confident every time she steps on the ice," he said. "Her willingness to step out of the crease and challenge shooters is wreaking havoc with potential playmakers...She has stepped up and become a good leader for this team."
Farmington (11-5) completed the first round of Missota Conferene play with a perfect 6-0 mark and begins second round action Tuesday, Jan. 11, with a home game against Chaska-Chanhassen at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
