Chanhassen scored four second period goals and rolled over Farmington, 8-2, Tuesday night in Chanhassen to claim its first-ever Missota Conference championship.
The Tigers (7-14-2, 4-8-1) were outshot 60-19 for the game and mustered just eight shots in the first and third periods combined.
“Chanhassen has a very good senior-loaded team,” head coach Keith Revels said. “The effort was there but the execution was not.”
“We spent a lot of time in our own end and they made us pay. We had trouble breaking out puck and keeping track of open players in the slot.”
Farmington netted their first goal in the second period to make it 3-1 Storm. Sean Johnson picked up the goal and Blake Weinand earned the assist. Kevin Olund added the second at 16:00 of the second period. Jack Erickson and Jack Buss picked up assists on the final Tiger goal of the game.
Victor Simones made 52 saves for Farmington. Connor Kelly netted a hat trick to pace Chanhassen.
“We will try to regroup with a couple of winnable games this week before sections seeding,” Revels said.
Farmington wraps up its regular season home schedule on Thursday as they host Red Wing in the final conference game of the year. The Tigers will then travel to Rosemount on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. Section seeding will be released on Sunday. Thursday’s contest begins at 7:15 p.m. while Saturday’s tilt begins at 3 p.m.
