Chaska used its its strong inside game and a 41-27 rebounding advantage to score a 79-62 Missota Conference win over the Tigers Tuesday night at Tiger Gym.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 4-9 in conference play (6-18 overall) while the Hawks improved to 8-5 (11-14).
"That was a game that was within reach until about five minutes left when Chaska went on a 21-7 run," Tiger coach Sondra Chadwick said. "The girls played great up until that point, but we appeared to run out of steam...Chaska had a big height advantage, but our girls need to be more aggressive about getting good position."
The first half provided entertaining play at both end of the floor, matching Chaska's low post game with Farmington's outside shooting. The Tigers made five-three pointers, two by Isis Alexander, before intermission to go to the break tied at 39-39.
Dava White's two free throws to start the second half gave the home team a short-lived lead before the visitors began to pull away, sealing the deal with their strong closing run. Farmington made just eight of 32 second half shots from the field.
The Tigers had three players score in double figures, led by Alexander's season-high 19 points. Mariah Mincke added 13 and Sofia Chadwick checked in with 10 points, four assists and three steals. Taylor Meyer led the rebounding effort with eight.
The contest marked the last home performance for seven seniors: Alexander, Mincke, Meyer, Dava White, Gaby White, Allie Rice and Desiree Loftus.
"All of these girls have had great careers and we wish them all the best in their futures," Chadwick said. "We will certainly miss them."
The Tigers close the 2011-12 regular season Friday night with a road contest at New Prague. Section 1AAAA play begins next week.
