It was deja vu all over again for the Tigers in a 3-2 overtime loss to New Prague Thursday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
The loss marked the third time in four outings Farmington has played extra minutes only to come out on the short end of a 3-2 count.
"The ever-elusive third goal would have been the game-winner again," coach Keith Revels said. "We're still undefeated (7-0) with three goals scored."
"I believe the count is at eight one-goal losses now. The boys played very hard and again gave themselves a chance to win. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record."
The hardest part of the most recent loss was that the Tigers held the lead for much of the night. The home team drew first blood on Jack Erickson's first period score and then went up 2-0 on Grant Hauswirth's (from Erickson and Dan Block) goal early in the second.
New Prague countered with a goal late in the second and tied the score midway through the third. The Trojans' Cody Meyer scored the game-winner shorthanded 4:39 into the extra eight-minute session.
"We had a 5-on-3 power play," Revels said, "and just as the first penalty expired they got loose on a 2-on-1 break and beat Victor (Simones) top shelf."
The game-winner spoiled another quality performance in the nets by Simones who finished with 37 saves.
"With all the narrow defeats, we are having trouble playing with confidence late in games," Revels said. "It's been really tough on everyone."
The Tigers (7-13-2) close their regular season with a busy three-game schedule: Tuesday (Feb. 14) at Chanhassen, Thursday at home versus Red Wing and Saturday afternoon at Rosemount.
