Shakopee scored five two-out runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 12-3 Missota Conference win over the Tigers Friday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The loss was the fifth straight for Farmington (1-5) and dropped the local nine to 0-5 in league play.

"The first inning set the tone," Tiger coach Mike Winters said, "especially since they had two outs and no one on...

"We fought back in the bottom of the first, but never got anything going after that. They stayed ahead of our hitters and we never strung any hits together."

The Tigers scored all of their runs in the home half of the first. Spencer Merle singled and Jordan Lugowski doubled to start the inning and Nathan Graham and Ty Vincent followed with RBI singles.

Merle started on the hill and surrendered eight runs before departing with one out in the third. Graham gave up three runs in 1.3 innings before Drew Hegseth mopped up with a three-inning stint of one-run relief.

The Tigers will be looking to halt their five-game skid Monday when they entertain Chanhassen. Tuesday they travel to New Prague followed by a Wednesday game at Red Wing and a Friday match-up at St. Cloud Apollo.
