Girls Track: A day of firsts at New Prague

Maria Kiminski
1st place high jump, 400-meter dash and 4x400 relay

It was literally a day of firsts for the Tigers at Thursday's triangular meet at New Prague.

Farmington tied host New Prague for the team title and the Tigers finished first in 11 of the meet's 18 events.

New Prague and Farmington each ended the day with 68 points; Missota Conference foe Shakopee totaled 50.

"The ladies competed extremely hard and it was fun to watch," coach Tom Hart said. "We know we have some tough competition coming up so this was a good start."

Izzie Ferm led the Tiger effort with four first place efforts. Individually, the talented sophomore led the field in the 200-meter dash and long jump. She also anchored the winning 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.

Alyssa Parco, Megan Graham and Jennifer Miller joined Ferm for the 4x200 race. Parco, Alicia Hett and Maria Kiminski were her partners in the 4x400.

Nadia Lorencz had another big day for the orange and black, winning the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump and tying for first in the pole vault.

Kiminski added two individual titles to her winning 4x400 relay performance with victories in the 400-meter dash and high jump.

Parco also had three first place finishes, winning the 300-meter hurdles to go with her two stints on the winning relay teams.

Farmington made it a clean sweep in the relays when Jennifer Miller, Natalie Stark, Jessica Arey and Kelly Kornmann combined for a win in the 4x100.

The glut of first place finishes provided 54 of the team's 68 points and meant that other place finishers were few and far between.

Four Tigers scored second place points: Hett, 800-meter run; Maricia Pacheco, 3200-meter run; Abby Haugen, pole vault and Kelsey Lindell, high jump.

Thrower Aly Grebner grabbed fourth in both the shot put and discus and Graham ranked fourth in the 400-meter dash.

Next Thursday the Tigers host their annual invitational with Lakeville South, Woodbury, New Prague, Prior Lake and Red Wing set to visit Tiger Stadium.
