Boys Track: Tigers 7th at Wildcat Invitational

 The Tigers scored 27 points to finish seventh in the talent-filled Wildcat Invitational held Tuesday afternoon in Eagan.

Apple Valley piled up 169 points to dominate the competition. Woodbury was runner-up with 96, followed by Park of Cottage Grove 81, Lakeville North 65, Eagan 63, Bloomington Jefferson 54, Farmington 27 and Cretin-Derham Hall 21.

The 4x800 relay team of Chad Retterath, Justin Hyytinen, Eric Stoeckman and Tyler Lerbakken turned in the best Farmington performance of the meet with a second place finish in 8:30.15.

Hyytinen came back later in the meet to lop 10 seconds off his school ninth grade record in the 1600-meter run with a finishing time of 4:31.49.

Pole vaulter Reid Taubenheim tied for third place with a personal best of 12-6 and Lerbakken ranked fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:05.86.

The 4x200 relay team of Troy Hoffman, Tommy Weigel, Mason Auge and CJ Wynnings placed fifth and the 4x400 quartet of Alex Chadwick, Josh Baker, Weigel and Lerbakken took sixth.

Connor Phu cleared a personal best 11-6 in the pole vault to finish sixth.

"We are young and need to be improving at this point to compete in the upcoming conference meets," coach Brian Helmstetter said. "We are going to be changing the mentality at practice a bit to help motivate our athletes."

Next Tuesday the Tigers travel to Shakopee for the Missota Conference Relays and two days later they return for the Shakopee Invitational.
