Boys Golf: Rough going at the Wilds

After an impressive first meet on its home course the Tiger scores soared in its second outing, a 17th place finish at the 19-team Prior Lake Invitational played at the Wilds Golf Club.

Edina edged Missota Conference power 299-300 to take home the championship trophy. The Tigers totaled 351 strokes (low four scores) to finish behind conference rivals New Prague (311), Chanhassen 315, Shakopee (318) and Holy Angels (337).

"After playing two quality rounds in a row, we really took it on the chin," coach Jon Holmes said. "The conditions were ripe for scoring and for some reason or another we all just tanked."

Holmes said that he generally doesn't like to count any score above 85 and this round only two players, Tommy May and Ryan Kelly, made that with identical 85's. No one else managed to break 90.

"Something was definitely in the Farmignton water out there that made it rough going for our entire team," Holmes said

The Tigers will be looking to bounce back next Monday when they travel to Deer Run Golf Club for the Chanhassen Invitational. The following day they go to Stonebrooke Golf Club for the first of five Missota Conference tournaments.

Twelve players will take part in Monday's meet with all varsity lineup spots up for grabs.

"I would expect we will bounce back with a sense of vengeance and urgency," Holmes said.
