Blake Weinand power play goal
Farmington surrendered three second period goals and fell, 3-2, to Rochester Mayo Saturday night at Graham Arena.
The Tigers (3-2-1) struggled the entire second period according to head coach Keith Revels.
“Had pretty tough time in the second,” Revels said. “We still had our looks but allowed three point shots to get to our net, two on redirection and another off rebound. It has been an area of focus but not an area that we were not very successful at in the second period.”
The Spartans (4-2-0) received goals from Nolan Edwards, Adam Alcott and Max Whitney. Mayo held a 15-8 shot advantage in the second period.
Farmington controlled most of the third period according to their head coach. Blake Weinand, unassisted and Jack Erickson, from John Donnelly and Andrew Peterson, both netted power play goals but the comeback fell just short.
“There were long stretches where they could not escape their end,” Revels said. “And we were changing lines while holding the zone and forcing multiple icings.”
The Tigers took a penalty in the final three minutes which hurt their chances of netting the equalizer, according to Revels.
Farmington will now host Hastings on Tuesday at Schmitz-Maki Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
