Farmington opened its 2011-12 season Saturday, Dec. 3, with a second place finish at the seven-team Winter-Warm Invitational at the YMCA in Austin.
Host Austin won the meet with a point total of 137.3. The Tigers finished at 132.7, followed by Rochester Century 124.75, Stewartville 122.6, Richfield 115.2, Rochester John Marshall 111.25 and Rochester Mayo 91.25.
"We had a very up and down meet, literally," coach Lynn Bauman said. "We had multiple falls on every event...This why I like going to Austin. They call it the Winter Warm up!
"I was really proud of the girls. They threw some very difficult skills which caused some of the ups ad downs. But they sure did catch everyone's attention....it was fun!"
Kiana Lord turned in a strong individual performance for the Tigers, winning the vault with a school record-tying 9.6 score. She tied for second in floor exercise and also placed fifth on the uneven bars. Her 33.7 all-around total ranked fourth.
Nadia Lorencz finished fifth in the all-around standings with 33.45 points. Lorencz was runner-up on the balance beam and fourth in floor exercise.
Kylie Wharton placed in three events: eighth on bars and floor and 10th on the beam. Her 32.7 points ranked eighth in the all-around competition.
Other Tiger point scorers included Tahra Eckert, fifth in vaulting; Kathryn Beckett, seventh in vaulting; Rebecca Opp, seventh in floor and Taylor Schmaltz, ninth (tie) in floor.
Farmington opens it Missota Conference season Friday, Dec. 9, with a home dual meet with Red Wing at the District Service Center.
