Boys Swimming: Tigers win Missota opener
Farmington opened its 2011-12 Missota Conference season with a solid 94-87 dual meet win over Northfield Thursday, Dec. 15, in Northfield.
"Our varsity athletes showed a little more improvement from our invite in Prior Lake," coach Ryan Hamen said. "Most swimmers are working very hard in order to achieve their goals.
"Practices have gotten more rigorous, and although the swimmers are having to get used to them, they are stepping up at meet time to perform."
Farmington won six of the first 10 events and piled up a big advantage in other place points before swimming the final two events in exhibition status.
Christopher Kirchammn was a double winner for the Tigers capturing the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Aaron Lane won the 100 backstroke and and Zach Holton led the field in the 100 butterfly.
Evan Carufel won the one-meter diving competition and the 200 medley relay quartet of Lane, Nick Stephan, Holton and Conner Kealy opened the meet with a victory.
Second place Farmington finishers included Holton (200 individual medley); Christian Bell (50 freestyle); Eric Schimmel (200 freestyle); Jonathan Bovee (diving) and Kealy (500 freestyle).
The Tigers scored third place points in five events: Cameron Molnar (100 backstroke and 500 freestyle); Lane (100 butterfly and 100 freestyle) and Derek Anderson (200 freestyle).
"We did very well but we're still not satisfied," Hamen said. "We set some great goals this year and the boys are staying focused on what they have to do in order to get their performances better."
The Tigers have two road meets in the final week before the holiday break. Tuesday they head to Prior Lake and Thursday they travel to Hopkins.
