Haleigh Zwart scored the lone goal and Jessica Erchul stopped all 42 shots as Farmington defeated Eden Prairie 1-0 at Schmitz-Maki Arena Tuesday night.
The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Tigers (2-6-0), who now have a bit of confidence as Christmas approaches.
“Not only do we know we can compete with the top teams in the state,” head coach Jon Holmes said. “We know we can beat those teams.”
Zwart’s marker at 10:01 of the 2nd period came on the power play. Betsy Anderson’s initial shot from the point went wide but ricocheted off the back boards at an angle that allowed Zwart to hammer it home. Grace Gavin and Anderson both earned assists on the play.
“We did a nice job crashing the net especially on the goal,” Holmes said. “All the things we did in practice this week seemed like they culminated tonight.”
The Eagles (2-3-1) outshot the Tigers 42-27 for the game, but Farmington did a nice job limiting scoring chances, according to their head coach.
“We focus on letting them take shots from the perimeter,” Holmes said. “Our defense was stingy tonight.”
Farmington will travel to Red Wing Thursday to play the Wingers at Prairie Island Arena. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
