The offense provided its biggest output of the young season but it wasn't enough to produce a win as the Tigers dropped their sixth straight, a 57-50 decision to Minneapolis Washburn Friday night at Tiger Gym.
"The girls were much more productive on offense and executed much better than they had in previous games," coach Sondra Chadwick said. "However, we needed to be stronger on the boards. We gave up a lot of second chance points."
Washburn jumped to a quick 9-2 lead but the Tigers battled back to make it a one possession game at the halftime break.
The teams battled back and forth through the second half with the Minneapolis City Conference school gradually pulling away on its advantage on the glass. The Tigers finished the night with just 12 team rebounds.
Freshman point guard Sofia Chadwick totaled 14 points, three assists and three steals and sophomore Aly Grebner cracked double figures with 11 points to lead the Tigers. Isis Alexander added nine points and three rebounds and Mariah Mincke chipped in with seven points.
"I am encouraged by our progress and am looking forward to our game on Tuesday," coach Chadwick said. "I think the girls are beginning to understand what they need to focus on in order to get that elusive win.
"We are a very inexperienced team in terms of varsity playing time. We are figuring out the speed of the varsity game, as well as a new system and expectations. That takes time to learn, but I am optimistic that we are getting there."
Farmington travels to Hudson, Wisconsin, Tuesday night, December 20, before closing out its pre-holiday schedule on Thursday with a home contest against Rochester Mayo.
