Dan Block
1st varsity goal
Joey Pierre scored his second goal of the game with 12 seconds to play and Park of Cottage Grove upended Farmington 3-2 in boys’ hockey action Thursday night in Cottage Grove.
Despite being outshot 17-1 in the first period, the Tigers (3-4-1) kept the game scoreless thanks in large part to Victor Simones. In all, the senior netminder would make 47 saves in the loss.
“Over this past week, our best defensive player was between the pipes,” Farmington head coach Keith Revels said. “Victor was very solid again.”
The Wolfpack (4-3-1) controlled play in the first and third periods, but it was the Tigers who struck first on back-to-back power play goals in the second by Dan Block at 3:47 and Blake Weinand at 8:48. For Block, it was his first varsity goal.
Park would add a power play tally with less than two minutes to play in the period by Luke Nelson to cut the Farmington lead in half entering the third.
Pierre added his first goal at 2:15 to tie the score and his second with 12 seconds to play gave Park the win.
“Just like Tuesday [against Hastings] we hung in there and gave ourselves a chance to win,” Revels said. “Both games are good preparation for the start of Missota games next week.”
Farmington returns to action December 30 when they open conference play at Shakopee. Puck drops at 6 p.m.
