Despite outshooting New Prauge, the Farmington girls' hockey team fell 2-0 to the Trojans Thursday night in New Prague.
The Tigers (1-5-0) fired 38 shots on goal, by far their largest total this season, but New Prague goaltender Sophie Puente stood tall and kept Farmington off the scoreboard.
The Trojans (3-5-0) scored both goals in the third period, the game-winner at 6:52 by Dani Kocina and a power play tally by Lindsay Paschke at 8:34. Brittany Sticha picked up the lone assist on both goals.
Jessica Erchul made 24 stops in the loss.
Farmington has now been held scoreless in back-to-back games for the first time this season and the team has scored a total of six goals through six games. Head coach Jon Holmes knows it can take some time early in the year, especially with a young group.
“We knew it would be learning and growing process from the beginning,” Holmes said. “But we have to learn to find the twine.”
Holmes said it was a team goal before the season to limit the opposition to two goals or less per game. In the past two games, the team has only allowed three goals. Both games, however, were Tiger defeats.
Holmes said his team played well on both ends of the ice, but knows one, old hockey cliché fits his team’s current situation all too well.
“No matter how well we play,” Holmes said. “We can’t win if we don’t score.”
The Tigers get back on the ice Saturday when they travel to Lakeville South for a non-conference game at Hasse Arena.
